Dry Needling is a very effective treatment for muscle pain, spasm, tightness, stiffness and discomfort. An extremely thin acupuncture needle is briefly inserted into a muscle knot (muscle trigger point) or tense muscle area that helps the muscle to relax. It works on a reflex response where the muscle just simply relaxes, and this has been used for many years by physical therapists and chiropractors as a safe alternative to the "muscle injections" medical doctors offer. "It's like a massage without a massage, and without the time and expense of a massage." The medical doctors typically inject lidocaine into the muscle to relax it which would be "wet needling" because fluid is injected, however studies show that the muscles relax just as well without the fluid injection... hence the term dry needling.
